He said other formations of U.S. and British planes flying from Turkey also attacked targets in north of the country.
``At 11:35 a.m. today American and British aircraft violated our space coming from Turkish territory...and flew over the provinces of Duhouk, Arbeil and Nineveh, attacking civilian and service installations.´´ he said.
Iraqi air defense units fired on the jets, the spokesman said. There was no immediate comment on the report by the United States or Britain, whose jets patrol no-fly zones set up by Western powers after the 1991 Gulf War.
Iraq said on Saturday six people were killed in a Western air attack on the southern province of Muthanna.
Western planes have frequently bombed targets in the no-fly zones since Baghdad stepped up its defiance of the restrictions two years ago. The zones, which Baghdad does not recognize, were imposed to protect Muslim Shi'ites in the south and a Kurdish enclave in the north from possible attack by Baghdad's forces.
