The Following are under investigation for production and sale in Europe of 30mm DU ammunition and weapons. R & D I suspect may be being carried out by Boeing to develop a "Bushmaster" 30mm cannon for the "Apache" helicopter, giving the Apache the capability to fire DU ammuntion.?

Alvis Subsidiary Hagglunds Looks Beyond Swiss Success
Alvis plc subsidiary Hagglunds Vehicle AB is to supply the Swiss army with the CV9030 for its new Infantry Fighting Vehicle programme.
The Swiss programme was seen from the outset as a pacesetter for a second generation of IFVs capable of serving well into the 21st century. Success in the ensuing hotly contested international competition is another notable success for Alvis plc - Europe's leading manufacturer of light armoured vehicles. Nick Prest, Chairman and Chief Executive of Alvis plc, said: "We are delighted that the Alvis Group has been chosen by the Swiss Government for this important programme. It confirms and strengthens our position as the leading light armoured vehicle supplier in Europe."
The provisional contract, which is subject to customary government and parliamentary approval, comprises an initial order for 186 vehicles together with associated logistic support to a total value of approximately £300M/SEK 4 billion. There are options for further orders of 60 to 120 vehicles. Deliveries of the initial order will commence in 2002 and run until 2005.
The Swiss authorities have selected CV9030 after extensive evaluation tests; in-country trials were conducted in arduous conditions between the summer of 1998 and the spring of 1999. The eventual selection of CV90 was based on the technical performance demonstrated in these demanding trials and on its overall cost-effectiveness against a stringent set of whole life criteria.
CV90 vehicles are already in service in Sweden and Norway and are in strong contention for Finland's TA 2000 Infantry Fighting Vehicle Programme - for which a procurement decision is expected in mid-2000.
Sven Kagevall, President of Hagglunds Vehicle, says of this outstandingly successful member for the Alvis plc product line:
"It is most gratifying that CV90 has been chosen for this important procurement, selection by the Swiss Army following a rigorous competition is a powerful endorsement of the CV90, which will open further opportunities for the vehicle which we know exist outside the Scandinavian market"
CV9030 is displayed on the Alvis Plc stand at DSEi (OS400)

Switzerland Chooses Boeing 30mm Chain Gun® Cannon
MESA, Arizona, Sept. 14, 1999 - Switzerland will join Norway and the United States and become the third nation to field a 30mm Chain Gun cannon produced by The Boeing Company for its Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
The Hagglunds CV9030 Infantry Fighting Vehicle, which features a 30mm Chain Gun cannon, was recently selected as the winner of the Swiss Armored Vehicle competition.
The initial order will be for 186 cannons with options for up to 120 more. Delivery is scheduled to begin in 2002 and continue until 2005. The order must be approved by the Swiss Parliament, with the contract expected to be signed in December 2000.
"This order is great news for Boeing," said Kirk Kennedy, business development manager for Ordnance." It will extend the Chain Gun cannon production line and set the stage for other countries to use this proven medium-caliber automatic weapon."
The Boeing Company in Mesa, Ariz., produces three 30mm Chain Gun cannons using the patented Chain Gun principle. The M230 is used on the AH-64D Apache Longbow; the Bushmaster II is mounted on the Norwegian CV9030 armored fighting vehicle; and the MK44 was selected by the U.S. Marine Corps for its Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle.
Switzerland is the 20th country to select a Boeing Chain Gun weapon system, which are produced in a variety of calibers.
The 30mm Bushmaster II, produced by Boeing in Mesa, Ariz., is a derivative of the popular 25mm M242 Bushmaster automatic weapon. The next-generation member of the Chain Gun® family applies the same design simplicity, positive round control, ease of maintenance, and constant velocity ammunition feed of the battle-proven Bushmaster cannon.
The larger 30mm Bushmaster II incorporates 70 percent of the logistic parts used in the 25mm M242 Bushmaster, offering operators low-risk, proven performance and NATO common parts supply.
The high-rate Bushmaster system fires either 200 or 400 shots per minute. It fires standard 30mm x 173mm GAU-8 ammunition, using a side-stripping link developed by Boeing. It can also fire RARDEN and Oerlikon KCB (30mm x 170mm) ammunition by changing the barrel, bolt and aft feed plate.
The Bushmaster II is in production and is being fielded by the Norwegian Army on the Hagglunds CV9030 vehicle. It is also a candidate weapon for the Finnish and Swiss combat vehicle programs.
The Bushmaster II has been fitted into the Bradley fighting vehicle, the Swedish CV-30, the AV Technology Multi-Gun System, the Delco turret, the OTO Breda turret, the Kuka turret, and the General Dynamics amphibious turret.
