Siemens Power Corporation (Siemens) and Duke Engineering & Services (DE&S) today announced the signing of a teaming agreement to provide digital instrumentation and control (I&C) upgrade services to the U.S. nuclear power industry.

The Siemens/DE&S team will offer turnkey capability for implementing digital I&C upgrades in nuclear plants. Services, from design to installation, include full system integration, work practice preparation, operator and maintenance training, procedure revisions, regulatory consulting, systems testing, spare parts and technical consultation and support.

By upgrading from analog to digital I&C systems offered by Siemens, improvements in nuclear plant economics can be achieved through lower personnel costs, enhanced operational awareness and control, reduced effort for engineering and documentation, higher availability and enhanced control, as well as optimized tolerance ranges. Digital upgrades can be performed on all plant systems needed for operation, surveillance, automation, monitoring and archiving. Plant processes can be monitored remotely and controlled via modern and "operator-friendly" control room screen displays.
