Duratek reports 1Q loss

Duratek Inc. reported a $1.6-million loss in the first quarter, compared to net income of $1.5-million a year ago. Duratek had warned investors to expect the loss, tied to problems with starting up new commercial waste processing strategies. The low-level radwaste services company posted a $9.1-million loss in 2000, but said recently it expects to return to profitability in second quarter 2001. Duratek had first quarter 2001 revenues of $66.5- million, compared to $41-million during the same period last year. The 2001 results include contributions from Waste Management Nuclear Services, which Duratek acquired in June 2000.
