NU losses tied to settlement of Millstone claims

Northeast Utilities (NU) reported a $13.8-million loss last year, including a one-time charge of $11.7-million to settle claims brought several years ago by Millstone's co-owners that NU did not operate the plant properly. Earnings were $34.2-million in 1999. The loss came despite record revenues of $5.90-billion for the company, up 32% from the $4.47-billion generated in 1999.
