"L'elenco degli orrori scoperti è lunghissimo. Per studiare gli effetti delle radiazioni sulla tiroide furono iniettate piccole quantità di iodio radioattivo a 104 bambini. Negli anni '50 ai bambini ritardati mentali che frequentano la Fernald School, in Massachusetts, fu servito a colazione un budino a base di latte radioattivo e furono loro praticate iniezioni di calcio e ferro radioattivi allo scopo di studiare il funzionamento del metabolismo. Lo studio era condotto da scienziati della Harvard University e del Massachusetts Institute of Technology, due delle più prestigiose università americane.

Tra il 1945 e il 1947 il Laboratorio Nazionale di Argonne, vicino Chicago, condusse esperimenti su individui ai quali, a loro insaputa, fu iniettato plutonio. Anche la Columbia University, negli anni '50, ripeté lo stesso tipo di esperimenti iniettando calcio e stronzio radioattivi su pazienti, considerati in fase terminale, ai quali fu nascosto il tipo di sperimentazione a cui venivano sottoposti.

Nel 1965 la CIA, la centrale dei servizi segreti, utilizzò dei detenuti per esperimenti con lo iodio radioattivo. Il laboratorio dell "Atomic Energy Commission" (Commissione per l'energia atomica) di Oak Ridge, una delle "città atomiche" realizzate durante il Manhattan Project, negli anni '70 su richiesta della NASA sottopose circa 2OO persone malate di cancro a radiazioni ad alta intensità, ad alcune di esse le radiazioni furono "somministrate" per mezzo di sbarre di cobalto e cesio radioattivi fissate sulle pareti delle loro stanze da letto."
