Japan to launch radiation-tracing system for sea accidents

       Japanese maritime authorities will launch a computer system by March 2004 able to trace radiation in seas after accidents involving vessels carrying cargo such as spent nuclear fuel, Transport Ministry officials said Tuesday.

       Using the system, the ministry overseeing the Japan Coast Guard would be able to foresee the effects of such radiation by analyzing the speed and direction of tides and winds, and the topography of the seabed near Japan, the officials said.
