Another case of a soldier contracting leukemia after being stationed in the Balkans was discovered in Germany, tomorrow's Hamburg press publishes, citing the Bundeswear members Union. The report informs that the soldier was an officer from Bavaria which was stationed in 1996 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and was diagnosed with blood cancer two years afterwards. The officers believe that the illness is a result of presence in Bosnia. At the beginning of January, the first case of a German soldier contracting leukemia was reported, but the German Ministry of Defense, rejected the possibility of a connection between the illness of the soldier and his previous engagement in the SFOR. Rudolf Scharping, the German Minister of Defense, announced in the meantime, that the German Army has no evidence that the Bundeswear members became ill during their stay in the Balkans due to the use of ammunition with depleted uranium. Scharping at the same time accused the opponents of the air attacks on the FRY of spreading fear of depleted uranium. "Those who were against the Kosovo war speak of the danger which is not existent at all, and they avoid real dangers, like the one of burned oil factories. The goal is to slowly destroy the legitimacy of war. But, no one will forget the killing of thousands people and mass deportation which we, together with the NATO, stopped", German Minister of Defense stated.
