Berliner Zeitung - Effects on civilians not important to NATO

Berlin - Despite the fact that NATO fired more than 30,000 projectiles bearing a total of nine to ten tons of radioactive uranium at Kosovo in the name of human rights, almost every official statement of NATO member countries concerns itself solely with the health of its own troops while the effects on the civilian population, Albanians, Serbs and Roma alike, are not important to them, writes "Berliner Zeitung".

Unlike NATO troops which leave Kosovo after a few months of duty, people who live there are exposed to far greater risks of developing tumors. Despite this, it was not until November 2000, that is, seven months after the war, that a UN group experts came to Kosovo to investigate the problem and its report is still incomplete. (Srna)
