Thank you very much for your kind letter which arrived on the e-mail. You were actuaally responding to a letter from me, so Tony Simpson kindly sent on your reply. I am very glad he did.

We were actively involved in defending Sakharov during all the years he was victimised, and I was closely involved with the Medvedev brothers, on those and other issues of civil liberties.

So I was delighted to hear that you have translated the piece by Zhores Medvedev on Stalin and the Atomic Gulag. I agree with you, this does help to put the puzzle together.

I am very anxious indeed to find people who can write authoritatively about the financial and commercial aspects of thee military industrial complex. I am also anxious to find people who know about the problems of procurement, especially as they affect the American National Missile Defence programme. I had noticed the great concern in Italy about depleted uranium.
