Cautious reaction to atomic test request

A former Australian airforce serviceman doubts that the Federal Government will act on a Senate request to conduct a study into the effects of atomic testing in the Outback in the 1950s.

The Upper House has called on the government to investigate the health, social and cultural impacts that the British testing had on veterans and Aborigines.

Avon Hudson, from Balaklava in the Mid North, says he has been fighting for compensation for 40 years, with no success.

And he holds little hope much will come of the Senate request.

"I appreciate the fact that it has happened, but I just do not have the faith after 40 years of fighting the government, I just do not have that faith anymore that the government will come up with anything," he said.

"They stall for time until we are all finally dead and that means the problem will go away for them."

Nota: finalmente. Speriamo che poi abbiano anche il coraggio di chiedere i danni.
